Tapping, 2 diff. melodies / cant do it.

i've been for well over 10 years now, no real formal training.

my main problem right now is 2 handing tapping, i've been listening to alot of stu hamm lately.

i can play the melodies just fine one by one with the proper hand, but when it comes to playing them together @ once i just fall apart, it's like my brain just cant compute it.

I can play most of the main parts of flow my tears by stu hamm(prob cause im not moving left and right at the same type), but when trying to play linus and lucy, i just fail.

any advice or particular type of exercises that could help me improve?

I know your gonna here this over and over again, PRACTICE. If you wanna be able to play Linus and Lucy which I struggled wih myself, use Linus and Lucy as an excericise ! Once you get one song done, the next will be easier and it will keep getting easier and easier, dont give up on Linus and try another 2 handed song, keep working on Linus until its perfect, until the technique is perfect.

Its perfectly normal, I gave up on it sooo many time, my right hand became practically paralysed when trying to get it right, on thing i think helped me is get the right hand melody down first, play along wiht the song but only play the right hand melody so you get timing right, then add the easier melody in. Try it might help.

I haven't tried two-handed tapping on bass as of yet, but I also play piano and know exactly what you are talking about since the same general thing applies to piano where the left and right hand are doing different things. What helps me is to think "gradient", meaning a little bit at a time. Try playing just a couple of measures at a time over and over again SLOWLY, until you can comfortably play them together. THEN add another or two and practice just that much together. Just go along adding little bits at a time, working on what you get stuck on. Hope that helps.

What you have to do is take the two melodies and look at them in a linear fashion in the same way that you would look at a polyrythm on a drum kit. Look at them as one line rather than two. See where the notes coincide and where they are separated. Do this bit by bit and practice slowly until you can play it without thinking too much about it.
