tapping arpeggios - smooth sound?

Sign in to disble this ad
Any advice for fast-tapped arpeggios? I'm not talking Stu Hamm style chordal tapping (though he is a god), but more like necrophagist or Blood Red Throne or the occasional Cannibal Corpse riff. Any advice on how to achieve that fast, flowing sound? I know Erlend knows a lot about this... All replies welcome

I don't think that's tapping arpeggios, it's more scales and modes.

To get a smooth tapping sound you need to be able to do it easily without effort, and some EQlization might help too. But the tapping lines you're reffering to don't sound smooth to me at all. They sound agressive, and that's whast gives them that great edge!

It's the legato that gives it. Notes are linked into each other, no silence between them.
A huge compression also helps a lot.

Yeah, the best advice to get that fast flowing sound is to practice it extremely slowly. Every time one of these "speed" threads comes up, SLOW practice is always ignored. Your brain and hands will make a connection faster if you practice anything slowly. If you can't play it slowly then that means you sure as hell can't play it fast. Start your practicing very slowly.
