Tapping...... note selection.

I see post all the time that talk about tapping. I have worked on this technique a bit and can actually perform the tapping itself but I don't understand about making sensible note selection.

What are things that you finger tappers do consistently?
For example: do you tap out minor chords on 1 string (say alternating hammering on & pulling off of the F note (8th fret on A string) with your fret hand pinky and the A note (12th fret on A string) with your pick hand index finger, while fretting a a D note (5th fret on A string)

Yes/no? What else? What are 'patterns' if you will, that make sense to tap out?

That's like saying, "How do I write music"?
Well I use my left hand for basic stuff like tapping through basic chord and octaves, and my right hand goes all over the place, depends what I'm trying to play though.

Thats the essense of what I am asking about.

I try to approch tapping like I would approch playing a piano. That is the only way that I can really explain how I do it.
