tapping and the right hand pinky

i'm currently playing around with doing my own little version of canon in D (i'm just on the melody being i decided to work on this yesterday) as far as the melody, im wondering what are some peopls opinion on the pinky finger for tapping on the right hand. do you use it? right now i use it as follows

P= pinky I=index M=middle

right now it's hard for me to do that cause my pinkys weak. i kinda wanna just use my ring finger instead of the pinky, but would this be considered bad technique like it is to not use your pinky at all for the left hand?

you dont neccisarilly have to use your pinky for tapping or any other techniquefor that matter but its a good idea to learn to use it as a resource. as you get further through tappin you'll find songs that are incredibly difficult without the pinky to help the streches rund etc
