Does anyone find this useful or cool? The technique I stumbled across one day and I am looking for criticism and opinions.

The bass is a dual darkstar through a p.a. of all things and the dog is my hero.

All he's doing is playing a little ditty by using harmonics.

Do a search for Jaco Pastorius, and you'll see good harmonic work. Vic Wooten did Amazing Grace in mostly harmonics.

Whether it's useful or cool is up to the listener and the player. I like it.

I think it's cool, but i don't get the thread title:

technique truth or dare.
The name of the tune is "Truth Or Dare"?

Is that a standard I'm not familiar with?

Anyway, moved to technique.

No, the trick to this whole little piece is the sliding harmonics in that position while stopping the note on the lower string. It's tougher than you think with a fretted bass.

Isn't that what the whole point of the video was about? Because unless you're playing it with your *ick the song is otherwise pretty lame.

its not a song. its just four chords played with that weird harmonic chording. but I have heard worse songs on the radio. It is an example of varied right hand technique.

10/7 is a perfectly acceptable, understandable fraction by the way.

those are slide harmonics, they're pretty difficult on fretted basses.

So apparently trolls do exist on bass forums.

The OP just posted a technique video, no need to tear him apart. He didn't ask to be compared to Wooten or Jaco.

Go play WoW and join those forums. They like trolling there.

I think people are bemused by the "truth or dare" thread title and feel annoyed that they have been drawn in by a misleading title - whereas if the thread title had been " Here is a video of me playing....etc. " - then they would have just ignored it!!

False advertising!!

Well I am not sure what the poster is after either but what concerned me most was the extreme angle on his right hand.

I personnally think his is actually wearing it a bit high for his technique and that wrist angle is gonna bite him someday.

All IMHO.
