Tennis elbow-- oh it's bad
Hey guys. First off, I apologize. This is apparently a common condition among many of us and I know there's a lot of threads regarding it. My case is a little more extreme than the others though.
So where did it start? I'm mostly into blues/funk as far as my style goes. A friend of mine was looking for a bassist in his progressive metal band and they had a lot of material for me to learn quickly. I agreed and ended up practicing way too much. Yeah, there was some pain-- but hell I'm young so I figured it'd subside.
That was 4 months ago. Nowadays, I wake up every 2-3 hours with my left hand completely numb and burning with a throbbing pain in my lower tricep. The only way to get rid of it is to get out of bed and rigorously stretch and walk it off for a few minutes before I lay back down. Hell, even as I type this post the pain is starting to conjure up.
I should also mention that my main source of transportation is a motorcycle with a really stiff clutch. Only after I started riding it everyday did the tendinitis start to affect how I sleep. I've been to the doctor, he basically told me to take lots of ibuprofen for the inflammation and stretch a lot (which I've been doing.) As far as technique goes, I keep my wrist straight as much as possible and doubt that it's a contributing factor.
To sum it all up, there's a lot of conflicting advice on how to deal with this. Some say you should rest, some say you shouldn't change your routine for the sake of building strength yet stretch a lot. All I know is, I don't want to dread going to sleep and doing the things I love anymore... what's your advice?
