not exactly technique, but i suppose this is the best place to post.
in the tip of the index finger of my fretting hand, i had this weird thing under the skin. it was like this white ball of skin, about the size of a pinhead. it was completely under the surface, but it hurt like a splinter or something when i put pressure on it. i think i first noticed it about 2 months ago when i started playing with a set of piccolo's. i dug it out once, and it came back. yesterday i dug it out again, and did a much more thorough job, and i'm trying to avoid using it while playing. my sister brought up the possibility that it was a sort of ganglion cyst created from repetitive stress. does anyone have any idea what this really is? and is it something that will have to be removed by a derm?

| | | | definitely not a blister. not a bubble, its a solid ball. when i picked it out it was really like the skin around it, just pale.

Odd that it was hurting. That's only ever happened to me once and, for me, it actually numbed my finger entirely. If it comes back again, it may be something you should talk to a doctor about.
Remember: if you don't know what it is, leave it!

| | | | well it was sortof inside the callous-region on my fingertip. but i know its not a callous because it really hurt. it feels like theres something sharp or jagged poking towards the inside of the finger. and it only hurts when there's really direct pressure, like if i pressed on it with my fingernail.

| | | | well its been a few days and its closed up without the thing returning. its a little sensitive, but it doesnt hurt like it did before. if it was a callous, it was pressing down on a nerve or something, cause its not a 'normal' feeling kind of pain.

| | | | I have those on my second, middle, and ring finger. I pick them out about once a month. No serious problems though. I wouldn't stress it. |
