Things to do on a Sixer

Is there anything special that only a 5+ string bass can do? I'm borrowing a 6-string Douglass (think SX) and was wondering if there was anything cool I should be trying out.
I'm only an intermediate player, so no neoclassical takes on Bach's Cello Suites.

why does everyone always assume shredding is all that occurs on 6 string basses..

groove on it. the same way you would on any other bass - you just have more notes to do so.

and obviously you have more room for chords if thats your bag, too.

You could pretend you're playing a really big guitar.

Six stringers are good for that.

I've already started that! I play guitar (started on bass first... I know I'm weird) and have been doing 6th string barre chords... A pretty nice sound if you ask me.

EDIT: I know shredding isn't all that goes on... I realize that it is just a four string with two extra strings... I was just wondering whether there was extra stuff to do... Like two octave scales with abolutely minimal shifting.

Move horizontally instead of vertically. To be honest you only have 5 more notes than a 5 string (if it's 24 fret)/10 more notes than a 4 and that's pretty miniscule

Sixers have always facinated me.

When you think in terms of "Bass Guitar", shouldn't they have had six strings to begin with?

It just looks good. Which is why i have one. Oh and there is the economy of movement, trebly tone of the C string which I love, Chords, soloing, etc... But mainly, it just looks good

Play it.

Use it to scratch your back.

Use it as a boat and become Noah.

Make a paddle out of another to row your new boat.

For this semester's performance, I'm playing Minuet in G major (perfect for E-C) and Fantasy arranged as a duet for a 4 and a 5 (me) string.

My sixer means I only have to bring one bass.
