thumb leverage on an acoustic (not upright)

i want an electro acoustic bass but i don't know if it'll suit my technique.

i don't really like playing with a pick, but i can't find a good leverage point for my thumb on an electro-acoustic, especially for the E string where there's no string above it to rest my thumb on.

i've been a bit spoilt with one current bass... she has a very handy pick guard in a shape which seems to always have an edge just where i want it.

I'm primarily a pick player and am currently learning to play fingerstyle. I have the same problem with my Michael Kelly and am thinking about installing one of these...........

I use the FB.
At one point, I thought a piece of half round, bolted and countersunk would be a good/cheap solution. Never did it. Still use the FB.
Bet a luthier could fix you up with something nice.

I'd replace the wood screw with a machine screw/nut/lock washer and a strip of very thin strip of backing wood.

You could always use this as an opportunity to learn floating thumb technique!
