Thumb position after slapping.

I can slap pretty well, but one thing that's always bugged me is what's considered "proper" thumb ettiquite. I basically taught myself, so I bang the string right around the last fret on the neck with my thumb and let the thumb bounce back parallel to the string.

I've seen/heard/read that you're really supposed to sweep the thumb downwards and let it rest on the string below the slapped one. Almost like you're plucking the string, but striking it to get a nice woody "thud" in the process.

Insofar as popping goes, is it bad form to keep your index and middle fingers curled against themselves until you need to pop or should you keep them extended so that as you slap, the fingers fit beneath the strings, optionally letting you pop them if you want to on the thumb return?

That's only really if you're doing the double-thumb thing (where you pop the string on your way back with your thumb). Even if you are doing double-thumbing you should know how to rebound your thumb, also.
