When i read the title.. something totally different came to mind.

But to answer your question i would suggest just simple chromatic excersises, 1 finger per fret and move down the neck. And then theres the spider and stuff like that, theres ton of them out there.

I'm in the same boat. I've smashed my finger(s) between steel, pulled it it out of place, broken it, I've simply destroyed my fingers.

I just work around it. I've worked hard enouggh to earn my gear, and I've learned this thing, so by god I'm gonna use it, %^*$ or high water.

Hey Spitfire - it's a shame you have problems with your middle finger. That's a key finger in setting up for both scales and arpeggios in both MAJ and min. But, I've been playing for over 30 years and about 8-9 years ago I damaged the ulnar nerve in my left hand. I had to stop playing for about six months and I was able to reconfigure my fingerings to suit what still works well for me.

It's amazing what you can do with just the index finger and pinky. These should be the two strongest fingers in your technique (from my perspective). You can use these two fingers only to play all MAJ and min pentatonic scales, fifths and octaves, etc.

The weakest finger in your arsenal is likely your ring finger. The problem with the ring finger and the middle finger is that they are not well spaced between the index and pinky to make bass playing easy. But, you can change your hand position to use your middle finger more easily. Try rotating your fingering hand wrist so that the palm opens up to you while on the neck. To do this, you may need to move your thumb from behind the neck and opposite your middle finger to a position where your thumb lies more parallel to the neck. THis should allow you to create more distance between your damaged middle finger and your index finger.

Yeah, I tried to edit my message but, as usual, I had timed out.

The term "fingering" generally means how you stop notes on the fingerboard. "Plucking" might be what he means, unless he's a lefty.

If you want to open up the space between your right hand index and middle fingers for plucking/pizzicato/whatever you want to call it, rotate your plucking hand wrist so that the back of your hand faces the talipiece.

As for the Jamerson technique; well, ain't too many cats who can play sixteenths with a one-finger hook.
