Tone list? (EQ settings)

Sign in to disble this ad
First off, I'm sorry if this is in the wrong thread, I was unsure of where to post it. I also couldnt' find a thread on this, so I apologize if it's been answered as well.

I'm wondering if anyone has come across a list of eq settings that help to produce a certain "generic" sound. Like I know for guitar to get the heavy distorted rock sound, it's use bridge pickup boost bass & treble, and reduce the mids. Is there a basic list for things like this for the bass. Like how to get that jazz sound, how to get rock, funk, slap, reggae, r&b, 60's do-wop etc. It's a bit harder for me to figure this out with the bass than the guitar, I'm finding. I know each artist has their own sound, but I'm kind of looking for a starting point for each of these.

Thanks everyone

Yes, here's two for starters:

If you wish to appear like you haven't got a clue what you're doing, set the graphic eq so it resembles a nice smiley face.

If you want to hear yourself at all in the mix, boost the mids.

Those are the only two I know!

Your generic slap sound will involve more highs, some lows, and less mids.

Blues typically involve some boosted lows and mids.

Ahh ok, I'm starting to get it a little more now. Keep em coming! Anything for jazz? I remember finding the jazz guitar tone settings once on a website and when I finally dialed them in...it was an enormous difference, and it felt great to have that tone at my fingers. That's why I'm looking now :-)

Acoustic Control Corp. (the "old" Acoustic) used to publish several combinations of EQ settings in the user manuals, as well as a reference card. Back then, a graphic EQ on an amp was pretty unusual.

Here's the chart for the 270/370:

Here's a general description of how to use the 370 EQ:

Keep in mind that what some people may think is appropriate for a particular type of music is their opinion. Your opinion may be different. I'd start with flat settings & adjust from there according to what you think sounds good/right.

WOW! Tons of info, thank you everyone :-) That should be enough to have a basic idea of where to start.
