tool for training strenght/stamina on right hand technique

Sign in to disble this ad
i'm sitting here at work (working in front of a computer, sitting still pretty much all day), and i got an idea. whenever i sit around doing nothing, having my hands free (ie bus to work, work, watching movies, whatever) i tend to "play" with my right hand. i try to find things, ie seams on my pants, edges on chairs etc that is sort of similar to my bass, and "play" straightforward shapes on it. sort of likke bill dickens and his buddah-rope idea.

now i'm thinking, wouldnt it be ok to have some sort of box which was similar to a pickup/body part and 3-4 strings, that you could actually bring around and practice right hand technique wherever you are? does such a thing exist? any ideas on how i could make one myself perhaps?

You are describing the Twanger PraxAx. It would be pretty easy to make your own.

I don't really see much advantage in them. You wouldn't be able to analyze your sense of timing or technique too well without being able to hear it properly

They have a Piezo option. I think the only reason would be to get the thump to analyze your timing. I have a 9V mini amp that has a belt clip, so it isn't as silly an option as it might seem at first.

I am constantly playing bass lines on the seam of my pants at work.

I also do lots of desk drumming.

You can always get a cheap accoustic bass, and bring it around everywhere, but I'd image you couldn't play it everywhere though (like at work).

Well without proper timing anything else you do is a waste of time. Though if you had a little amp it might be of some merit. If you practice speed (with or without proper timing) It's not going to be much good only having one hand to up to speed so to speak. You still need the other guy to move around the fret board. I'm still not convinced they are of much use.

depends on what you're playing. i need more strenght/stamina/dexterity in my right hand, but not so much in the left. mostly because i play alot of guitar and use a pick too..
