Transition from Acrobatics to Regular Verses

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys,

I just wrote an intro to a song, and I absolutely love it. The biggest problem is transitioning it. My band plays pretty fast paced Prog Metal (But not overly complex like a lot of prog) But I honestly can't come up with a way to stop the riff and move onto a verse type thing. It's in C# Minor. Any suggestions on how to make a proper transition or should I just start off normal and move into it as a solo?

Thanks!

Gospel keyboardist would be a good source on how to wing an introduction. First 8 measures with a iii, vi, ii, V7, I turn-a-round works for Gospel. Metal, perhaps not, but, part of the tune (First 8 bars of the chorus) with a turn-a-round seems like a good place to start.

As John Coltrane got older, he had more to say musically, and his solos ran longer and longer, to the point where it was getting to be a problem in the band.
Troubled, Coltrane talked to Miles Davis about it. "How do I finish my solos?", he asked. ''John,'' Davis replied, ''Put the horn down.''

Not to derail the thread, but what do you mean "overly complex"? Isn't prog supposed to be complex?

I don't know what kind of metal you play, but if it's fast paced, maybe you can through in a light breakdown or some fast notes over an interesting double bass drum rhythm.
