I'm thinking of tuning to CGCF and Eb-Ab-Db-Gb, has anyone every played in CGCF or is it a random tuning that only 2 or 3 guys use?

A lot of bands use both of those.

CGCF seems to be more prominent in metal (well, nu-metal at least). Depends on what music you play and what sounds/feels good to you. Personally I haven't messed around much with alternate tunings, but whatever floats your boat.

The very first band I played in tuned a half step down to help the singer out. It kept him in his range that he was comfortable in, so I guess that takes you back to what fingers said.
