Tuning for a audition...

Sign in to disble this ad
Okay, maybe I'm dense, I have an audition on Wednesday, I need to tune my 4 string 1 1/2...does anyone know the notes, since I'm not schooled by any means, isn't my stings going to flap against the board, is this possible, I've dropped D many times, but this is new to me. Anyone? Thanks in advance!

Normally the bass is tuned

EADG

the notes 1.5 steps down....
C# F# B E

It may be too flappy, give it a try, you might want to get some thicker gage strings.

For the type of music you ar probably going to be playing down 1.5 steps the clanky sounds of your bass will be masked by the distorted guitars.
I suggest a 5 string in the future for that style of music.

I'd recommend dropping down a 1 1/2 step on the (normal E String) then just 1/2 step on the others. Like a dropped D tuning. Play by ear and if there are cover songs involved learn them in this tuning.
OR like the above reccomendation, get a set of heavy strings 45-105s/110s, I like DR MM Fat Beams 25-105.

If you have a 5 string it might be better to bring every thing up 1 step. IE, make your B the C#, your E the F#, etc. Then just play like a 4 string and ignore the G string.
