Tuning DGBE

In the middle of a 'I want lower than B, but G strings are rubbish" crisis.

Anyone tune DGBE, 2 octaves down from the top 4 strings of a guitar?

It gives you the low D; it might be easier to play chords; it would help you navigate the guitar or ukulele. It sounds fun!

I tried it out many years ago. I retuned my bass, and just went to a band practice and got stuck in. We were an all original band, so i could play whatever i liked, and i play enough guitar that i knew where the notes were. It worked out ok (by which i mean nobody noticed!), but it would be a massive ball ache to play any covers, and octaves don't fall under your fingers in an erganomic way. I figured in the end that standard tuning was more practical, but i do drop that a tone. : )

Edit to add: it was fun to try out : )
