The easiest way to get into another tuning is to make use of the chromatic tuner that I am about to suggest you purchase. You should get one; they're cheap.

I primarily use standard tuning, dropped D, C tuning, C# tuning, down a half step, and down a full step.

Dropped D is good for stuff like Tool.
C tuning is good for stuff like System of a Down.
C# is good for new SOAD.
Half step is good for "newer" Metallica.
Full Step is good for "Sad But True" by Metallica.

rather than make a new thread I thought I would pose a question in this one.

I'm in a new band that had a bassist whom would do C# Standard tuning.

so on my 5 string I've taken that as high to low (E, B, F#, C#, G#)

is this right?
