two finger picking hand question

Sign in to disble this ad
if you had to pick this as 16th notes at a high tempo

A----x-----x-
E-x-x-x-x-x-x

starting with the right hand index finger hence going I M on the E then play A with I, after that
would you go rake your index finger back up to the play the note on the E string from A string or you'd strictly play alternating fingers. you coud take the intro riff to master of puppets by metallica as an example

Try drinking some red bull before you practice.

Honestly, what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for someone else. If you wanted to conserve motion, you would rake the strings, but it may take you out of your rhythm.

It may seem counter intuitive, but I have found that for really fast heavy metal style finger picking, it helps to be as relaxed as possible. Play lightly and try not to dig in so much.

economy of motion will really save you on fast passages...I usually pick closer to the bridge on 16ths also.

alternate. If you start with the index finger on the 1 and 3 but then you rake the 3 into the 4 your next set of 16ths will be starting with the middle finger. That's more confusing to me.

Personally, I'd lead with my middle here, and pluck the A with my index.

Point taken..It can be confusing..BUT well worth learning to lead with either finger...comes in handy for lots of situations besides 16ths...once you get it down it becomes "second nature"
