Use of thumbs

Anyone here use your thumb alot? NOT with a slapping technique but with a strumming/plucking technique. I my thumb amost as much if not equal to the amount I use my first two fingers. I never even use my 3rd finger unless I am galloping (Steve Harris style) because I do not have great dexterity with it, but using my thumb extensively I am basically using 3 fingers to play. I never seen too many bassist use a technique such as mine. Are there any more of you thumb pluckers out there?

On certain parts of certain songs, when I'm looking for a very full tone and the part is not busy, I will thumb-pick. It really seems to make the tone fatter!

Yep, I use mine a fair amount in the same way. Particularly useful when quickly skipping between E and D or G strings. One day I realized it's already there(on the E) so why not use it? Anthony Jackson is a master of this.

i use mine a lot in songs with octaves, or anything with a reasonable amount of string crossing, and i really only use my thumb on the E or low B, and rest it on the string below the one which i am playing on when not thumping(thumbing? not slapping) with my thumb.

In my band I play 3 originals that I use a "classical" technique were my thumb pluck the A-string,my index strums the D-sting and my middle strums the G. (also same with EAD)

I also use my thumb for meaty low tone extensivly on some of my bands slower parts.

Yep it's great to have the flexiblity to play with 2,3, thumb or thumb and fingers, in hand.
(sorry about the dang Pun)
