Don't forget to check out Victor and Steve's new site, www.thebassvault.com where you'll find a ton of cool stuff, including tricks like those...

Vic is a very good friend of mine, and I just spent the last 8 days with him at our Bass At The Beach camp. I know many of his techniques by seeing them up close in person. If we are referring to the same sound....its the string coming off the end of the fingerboard. You push the string off....and it goes beep. You can see/hear this on the bass day 98 vid....as well as elsewhere.

Aloha, Garey | Yea... i guess i could be wrong about how is grabbing that sound... just seems like i've seen him do that more than once. I heard the noise as well while watching one of his tube vids, and thats how i percieved it. so I tried it and it sounded just like it did on the vid...So yea... try it.

You make the sound by pushing the G string off the end of the fingerboard but by doing this the string is forced down and touches the pickup cover and this is where the sound is produced. Try it out!!

Its the string coming off the end of the board....not only have I tried it, but I've watched Vic do it in person. I'm in the fortunate position to work with him, and have seen him many times doing these things.

Originally Posted by MGabeM20 isn't touching the strings to the pickups bad for your pickups? | Actually, the pup cover is usually made out of plastic or wood so, i dont think it can cause any harm. I've had quite a few and seen quite a few basses where the strings touch the pup cover, other than some checking marks on the cover, i have had no problems with it. Like i said before... i can get that "sound" by pressing the G string against the p pup cover, while i can't say that i "work with Victor" etc and know for certain that's how it's done...i can say that you can make that sound, that way, regardless. Try it both ways and see wich one works best for you.
Peace.
