Weird 3 finger style issue(maybe)

Sign in to disble this ad
I am trying to get the hang of using 3 fingers on bass. I am pretty good I can do "R M I" or "I M R" so either way is fine for me but I prefer " I M R".

here is the issues: (i'll try and be as descriptive as possible)

When I use "I M R" my pinky tends to be diagonal to my ring finger. It sticks way out an acts like it tries to pluck the string but it is no where close to them. It is also elevated higher... so it sticking up.

When I am doing it "R M I" my pinky moves like a the other 3 but it is level and isn't noticeable. I am just wondering if there is any way that my pinky will level back down naturally doing it the "I M R"? I see people do it with out that problem.

Since your pinky isn't in play, who cares what it looks like?

I prefer RMI but there's no right or wrong IMO.

i've been playing imr for quite a while now, and in my experience, your pinky is gonna flail around like an idiot no matter what you do. it doesn't inhibit your playing though, so i don't worry about it

I think this actually the reason a lot of myths get thrown around about 4 finger bass players. Some bass players really look like they're using 4, because there pink curls up this way, like John Myung.
