His isn't as weird as that guys. Collapsing of the fingers at the end joint looks really painful to me.

My fingers actually do that somewhat. Every one of my fingertips is double jointed and collapses like that if I push too hard on the strings. I'm learning to stop doing that

Bad technique

This guy makes it really hard for himself....needs to practice more on modes/ scales etc.....compare him to this guy...

I think I know what happened. Berlin Released Sheet music, and some guy tabbed out where the notes were but not in the best areas to play them on power tab. This guy probably played them exactly how it was tabbed out. But his technique still is weird. It reminds me of Sonic for Sega when ever he would spin upside down when he was underneath a gust of air.

I don't have the best technique in the world. That being said, I can say that he is putting too much effort into moving his left hand fingers. I think it would be hard to play for a long time moving that much. If you watch most (notice most, not all) of the 'best' palyers, either guitar or bass, they don't move the fingers much. The guy in the last link in the tread is a good example. Very little left hand effort.

It's not that it's wrong, just ineffecient. If he gets the job done then he has great technique. But as I said earlier, I don't know how he could play for long periods of time.

My fingers are really flexible and bend backwards like that with no pain at all. I don't think I bend them back like that when I play though... just when I'm trying to gross my wife out.

The guy with the Ibanez and the guy with the Fender have some of the worst left hand technique I've ever seen. The video of the guy with the Spector is doing it correctly.

Ibanez player's hand is flying so wildly around that he can't possibly play with much accuracy and will fatigue quickly which will cause him to compensate for crappy technique by using crappier technique.

Fender guy is playing on the flat pads of his fingers and dead center in the middle of the fret, a sure sign of a self taught player that doesn't understand where his left hand power comes from.

You might laugh and Spector man but his economy of motion and fingering accuracy gives the best result. He clearly has some formal bass training. If you're going to copy one of these guys, copy him.

First guys so proud of his fretboard he just wants to make sure you can see it... maybe... possibly... likely not.

Definite spider-fingers goin' on there.

Another example of someone so hell-bent on playing fast that they have no clue of style or groove.

The problem is he doesn't get the job done. Ibanez guy a gets tired half way through the video. It looks like a work out. the Zoidberg thing is awesome.

Yeah, no question, Spector guy is who you want to be as far as left hand technique goes.
