Question What is the best way to finger pick?

Sign in to disble this ad
personally I use two or three fingers, and move my thumb down for each time I switch strings. For example, if I play on the E string my thumb is on the pickup, and if I play on the D string my thumb is on the A string. Also, if I half to do walks or if there are very quick notes on a string above, I'll just keep my thumb where it is and rest my finger on the string below it after I pick (I don't know how clearly I conveyed that, but I don't know how else to explain it, sorry!)
But anyways, I haven't taken lessons and I want to know, what do you think is the most efficient way of finger picking in general?
And also, what about for songs by Iron Maiden and Dream Theater?

Seems like you're on the right track....that's how I do it (I play some Maiden) a few main places to rest my thumb...pup, strings, neck joint (for thuddy tones, and mwah).
