If it is that one that starts with an H, let me say thank you for having a part in some of assembling some of the most reliable and endearing cars ever made. This coming from a classic car/muscle car and general auto nut... who has owned many American as well as three that start with an H.

Hey Capn,

Thanks for sharing your woes..and to others for chiming in. Goes to show you there is a reality out there outside the bass realm.

I like Catfishes idea about envisioning what you want and going after it. The whole you can do anything you want mentality. The only issue I see is the going after it. To become a pro musician these days is well from my understanding beyond hard. I live in a fairly small town and the talent that is here is phenomenal. Have any of em hit it.. Maybe 1 and that's a christian praise band that formed in college. So it isn't a reality for everyone but nice to think about.

Back on subject.I have similar struggles but mine is more involved with my health. Having blood sugar issues has led to having adrenal issues thus having me wore out doing little if anything. On top of that I have an infant that doesn't nap (my first) Talk about tired...

I don't know you or your place with religion but you asked for opinions...The first thing I do is pray. Only the Lord can supply you with adequate energy and creativity. He gave you this gift after all. You may think of all the things you have been blessed with ..a job (although it sucks..you do have one), wife, house, kid(s) and thank him. You may surrender you tired mind, body whatever and ask for a little boost. It may not (or it may)come overnight but I promise you if you get in a routine of praying it will happen. Your creativity and energy will be beyond belief. Again he's blessed you with this talent and surely wants you to use it.

Blessings
M

Yes it does start with H and you're welcome. They have a reputation to uphold and I'm a quality control evaluator so you know my job is pretty hard.

Oh yes, prayer is definitely part of my daily routine. It's the falling asleep during prayer that makes me struggle. Actually I'm praying that God will give me another job here soon that won't be so demanding on my body but until then I still thank him for the one I've got.

Yeah man, work can be a huge drain I know.

After a long day at work, especially a stressful one, I jump in my car, pack a bowl, and make my 45 minute commute home. I process what has happened thus far in my day (nearing 5pm as Im on my way home) and just forget about it. Tomorrow is another day, and I'll be damned if I'm going to let the rest of my day be affected by what I don't have to worry about tomorrow. Sometimes I get home and am not in the mood to do anything at all and I dont, I should, but I dont. You have to be okay with taking some days off, if youre trying to force the time to pick up the bass you won't enjoy it.

Try getting home and taking some time to yourself, just doing nothing. You'll get bored of doing nothing real fast, so pick up your bass for 30 minutes. Over time you'll get back into it, everyone needs some down time.

Usually me doing nothing ends up with me snoring on the couch, but if I can stay awake and get bored really fast then you may be on to something. Makes sense, all but the bowl packing thing. I just say "NO".

I convince myself that I could become better than everyone else (although it's probably not true) and that alone makes me want to play until my arms die from exhaustion.

I'm feeling you man! I go through the same thing quite often. One thing that helps me is to learn a groovy song that's WAY outside the style I normally play. somehow a new groove excites me and I end up finding my zone again. Just go to Itunes and learn the first song you see.
Works for me.
