What finger style is this (floating thumb)?

(Zoom to 2:45, it zooms in on his fingers there)

It looks like floating thumb, but it kinda looks like he uses his thumb to pick instead of mute.

I also really cant see it clearly

though a question is in order: why does it matter?

if youd like to pick with your thumb, learn to do it, if youd like to mute with it, learn to do it

Why should it matter to you if it matters to me?

It looks like a movable anchor to me.

actually scratch that, after a second watch I'm not so sure.

Why would it matter whether it matters to him if it matters to you?

He is using a hybrid of (at least it looks like it to me please do not flame just an opinion) moveable anchor (as he seems to move his thumb from string to string when he is using only two fingers to pluck) and kind of the Matt Garison/Gary Willis use of the thumb (more Matt less Gary as I believe Gary doesn't generally use his middle when plucking with his thumb). He of course shoots right to a double thumb and pop for the speed section at the end of the solo (although with his thumb and two finger approach he could have easily summoned the speed to play that passage that way).

This is at least how it appears to me.

Because it only needs to matter to me and it shouldn't matter to him what matters to me since something that matters only to me shouldn't matter him.

What matters is that it works for the person in the video... as far as I'm concerned. If more people put more time into what worked for them rather then worry about emulating others we'd have a lot more innovation and a lot less imitation.

As far as I'm concerned.

Looks like a cross between Gary Willis 3-finger approach and Lobriel's Flamenco style.

He's just plucking and thumping with his thumb and anchoring on the strings when he isn't using his thumb. Not that mysterious.

slap bass mixed with some banjo.

Not to sure about the thumb, but to me it just looks like the Willis open/close 3 finger technique.

Yes, it looks like he occasionally strokes with his thumb, but I'm guessing he's just moving it off the string right before he plucks it with his index, then plants it back, it's what Willis does.

yeah, he is trying to do a 3 finger banjo kinda picking it looks like...

if you listen, he plucks with his thumb... he is playing so slow no real need to use a 3rd digit...
