what is myung doing . . .

Sign in to disble this ad
. . . in the intro to "panic attack"? he seems to effortlessly slide up 5 frets on the upper strings in the middle of the intro, while he has a repeating double note that does not change frets on a lower string. does he have his bass tuned so that the open string is the double note? as for the right hand, it doesnt sound like he is popping and slapping with his thumb. but there is such a heavy attack that it does not sound like finger picking. someone help please!

Hey Fellow TBers, im new here

john myung usually keeps the majority of his bass in standard tuning (as i am is just b string tuned up to C) i think in panic attack and for a few other songs on octavarium he has another bass tuned A D G C F Bb , the intro is simply the Eb D Eb F Eb D, Eb D Eb Ab G F. line played over the droning C string

I've seen the song live, and like said above, he just pays the Eb D Eb F Eb D over the open C string. On that song it's a very trebly tone for finger picking.
