What pick to use?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm primarily a fingerstyle player, but want to learn to how to use a pick. I've played using my dad's Dawg madolin pick, which is alright, but I want to try some others.

I'm primarily looking for a good chunking sound(do people know what I mean by that?). I'm thinking specifically of the kind of stuff i hear Entwistle doing on Live at Leeds, and the sound JPJ is getting on Achilles Last Stand(Been watching this a lot, but those with the recording will have a better idea of what I mean: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DbQz1...20last%20stand)

Thanks in advance everybody.

I "love" how JPJ gets almost no camera time whatsoever. I can also hardly hear im on my crappy laptop speakers.

No kidding phx. It's a travesty! Nevertheless, I love watching Page, so I try not to think about it too much.

Entwistle used Dunlop picks in 1mm (black) and 1.14mm (purple). This website http://www.thewho.net/whotabs/equipm...isc.html#picks also lists him using Herco picks but doesn't mention the black Dunlops. I only know he used the black ones because I caught one at a JEB show back in the late 1990's.

They're pretty heavy picks but still have a fair amount of flexibility. When using a pick, the black ones are the ones I like.
