In my years of playing guitar and bass I've come across a lot of so called "critics" who would rather critique your style of playing and tear you apart verbally than listen to the music you're playing. I've been playing guitar for 19 years now and when I started bass I used a pick exclusively. I couldn't tell you how much flack I took. I heard it from bassists, drummers, keyboard players, guitarists, and even little kids.

When I started on the slap technique I've really only heard flack from other bassists who either can't play slap or listen and play metal/punk or some other genre where it's not used.

After all of what I've experienced in my years of bass playing I chose picking. However, no one critiques my playing now because when it comes down to it I put the notes where they belong no matter what style I use and that's what pays the bills.

most loathed technique

MY techniuqe is the worst
nah seriously my technique that i like to use most bass players hate but i like it and it sounds good in the music i play so stuff it i'm using it

truth of the matter is there is no bad techniuqe only new ideas that we dont know how to use yet
i dont really know who invented slap bass but i bet he got tons of flak for it when he 1st used it and now its a widley accepted and (if i'm honest) a dam good funky technique to use (not me though i play metal)

pete wentz does need his hands cutting off though and an operation to remove his head from his arse wouldnt go a'miss either but thats just me bringing the handbag out

There's too much negativity here already.
