What's your favorite style to play?

I don't want this to be a "punk sucks, fusion is more technical, therefore it's better" type of thread. I'm just curious as to what styles people like playing and why.

As for me, I like combining jazz, ska, reggae, punk, latin, folk, and funk with my drummers, guitarists, and horn players. I like ska and reggae best because I love seeing people bobbing their heads and getting into it due to my sweet and low basslines, and I like punk for its raw aggressiveness and energy.

I jam with a revolving door of about 10 or so kids (two drummers, 3 horn players, another bassist/pianist, and four guitarists) so it never gets old, we all add our own flavor in. I normally add reggae and ska lines to my one drummers funk beats and my guitarist's "hendrix" blues riffs.

Acid jazz, ambient/groove material with electronica, psychedelic rock & world music influences...

I love the so-called "floating bass" effect - huge, powerful swells of ultra-deep, ultra-pure "transparent" bass that fills the entire room, flowing effortlessly into every little space, smoothly filling up everything with irresistible groove...

Funk, and acid jazz/pop like Jamiroquai is the most fun to play.

I'd love to play jazz too, but I suck at it. I'd need to practice way more than I have time for to become better at it (or maybe I should cut down on the hours I spend in TB... )

I like Rock (ie: Rush, Yes, etc.), blues (SRV, Clapton, Mayall, etc.). Those are my 2 favorites, but will play almost any style when called upon to do so.

I can tell that my musical tastes are very diverse, but my true favorites are:

1- Rock (Everything from Chuck Berry to Iron Maiden)
2- Funk
3- Salsa

I also like to play reggae, but a whole gig of just reggae tunes seems pretty boring to me.

i play many different styles but the styles i enjoy the most are funk and progressive. progressive because i look at the pieces as more of an art form, with a storyline and all. gets me thinking, i just really like it
and i like funk cause i actually feel like i am "playing" with my bass. just straight up having fun.

Well, I'm at school for Jazz.
I love having that power over the band. Bass Essentially is the crucial part in Jazz lines.
But, it's such a relief to back to Rock. Playing Supertramp, Doobie Brothers, all that!

I LOVE playing Latin Jazz and all the branches of Latin (Salsa, Samba, etc etc)

I'm one of the punk/HC school, I play with a pick and I'm good doing eight note lines, I also use effects for noise purposes or just to have a thick aggresive bass sound. I also like to strum chords once in a while.

The Blues is definately more relaxing and at most times fun. But i enjoy many forms of rock and yes Pilgrim Surf music is alot of fun. I seem to have the hardest time doing Eagles and some high end Blue grass for some reason. My neighbor says its because I dont know my scales...I am a self taught by ear bassist that reads music slower than dung. But Like I said the blues has to be the most relaxing when with the guys in the garage.

I love playing funk, or anything with a killer groove to it.

I don't think I know how to change "styles". I just fumble my way through the most simple of songs and hope to GOD nobody kicks my ass.

Luckily, I practice alone, so there's nobody there.

I just love slap, though I wouldn't say I'm any good at it. I also like blues and funk, which I play most of the time, but I would love to get more into jazz, mostly swing and bebop.
