Where and how to pluck?

Sign in to disble this ad
Normally, I pluck pretty hard right over the neck pickup on my TL-5.

The way I pluck, the strings kind of go down and seem to be bouncing off of the fretboard and clanking. Should I raise the action and/or change my technique?

If I should change my technique, how and where should I be plucking? Plucking near the bridge is more comfortable, but I don't like how there are a lot more overtones. Should I just find a compromising spot?

Turn up your amp, play with a lighter touch. Your tendons will thank you

You pluck by brushing over (or through) the strings towards your face. Not down to the fretboard.

For the spot, it's about the tone, not your technique. Pluck where the tone is appropriate for the song.

Send a message via AIM to WhiteKong
pluck closer to the bridge for a more percussive sound and closer to the neck for a deeper sound.
