Who does classical fingerstyle picking?

I used to use pick. But now I use this style strictly and my thumb/index (tip of my index finger, edge of the nail) finger for strumming. Is this common? Does any one else in here use that technique?

Pretty common I'd say.

I always play finger style. Nothing against playing with a pick, it's just that picks are like biros with me and I could never find one when I wanted one. I would even buy a whole bunch of them, put them in my gig bag and when I arrived at the gig, as if by magic they were nowhere to be found.

So, I learned to play all the styles I needed with my fingers, usually traditional two finger style, sometimes three if I want to gallop like Steve Harris. However I often use my thumb and all fingers like a classical guitarist (I've dabbled with classical guitar for years) and nowadays if I want to use a pick I just pinch my thumb and index finger together (just like holding an imaginary pick) and use the back of my fingernail.

I figure that as long as I'm careful around meat cleavers and circular saws, I'll always be able to find my fingers at the end of my hands.
