Well, i was playing the other day and somebody I never met (a bassist) was at the friends house, I had my bass there so I picked it up and started wankin' away, he came in and said I sound a lot like Louis Johnson, now... I've heard of him, but didn't know his name till he told me thats how I sounded.
It was more style sound, rather then tone... Apparently I sound like im beating the crap out of my basses when I slap. http://youtube.com/watch?v=DBFKkiju5N0
Honestly, that is how I sound when I get into slapping, hah... I do a lot of ghost notes and muted "Thumps"

Of course that's not how I play all the time. There's only so far you can go playing like that. I save it for the 3 chord stuff.

I never try to sound like anyone else, it just turns that way when you're heavily influenced by someone.
I didn't take this comment as either a compliment or the opposite (what's the word for that in English?). But he also said I was easy and fun to play with and that I took as a compliment. Because that's what counts, not who you sound like. You should sound like you, not like someone else. However, that's easier said than done...

Ouch. I got a C on that exam, despite the compliment.
Since then, I don't think I've been compared to anyone as a bassist.
