Who have you been told you sound like.

Well, i was playing the other day and somebody I never met (a bassist) was at the friends house, I had my bass there so I picked it up and started wankin' away, he came in and said I sound a lot like Louis Johnson, now... I've heard of him, but didn't know his name till he told me thats how I sounded.

It was more style sound, rather then tone... Apparently I sound like im beating the crap out of my basses when I slap.

Honestly, that is how I sound when I get into slapping, hah... I do a lot of ghost notes and muted "Thumps"

I can honestly say that I have never been told I sound like anybody playing bass, but I've been told I sound like a cross between Ozzy and Huey Lewis when I sing.

I was playing a blues jam and got told I sounded like a young otiel(sp) burbridge. I am a death metal bassist, it was the biggest compliment i ever got

nobody has ever really told me i sound like another bass player, ive had several drummers and other bass players say they have never heard anyone play bass like i do.... i hope it was a compliment though lol.

Nobody specifically, but I've been told I play like a Ramone with the way I pick some of our simpler songs. The whole nothing but downward strokes thing, and the way I stand.

Of course that's not how I play all the time. There's only so far you can go playing like that. I save it for the 3 chord stuff.

The drummer I played a couple of gigs with recently, said my playing reminded a bit of Rocco, one of my main influences together with Jamerson. I never try to sound like anyone else, it just turns that way when you're heavily influenced by someone.

I didn't take this comment as either a compliment or the opposite (what's the word for that in English?). But he also said I was easy and fun to play with and that I took as a compliment. Because that's what counts, not who you sound like. You should sound like you, not like someone else. However, that's easier said than done...

+1 The best complement you can get IMO is that you sound like no one, i.e. you sound like yourself .

It's been a long time, but I was once told by my jazz improv teacher that I sounded like Stanley Clarke when I solo'd, except that Stanley Clarke had tone, and his fingers didn't hit the strings like hammers.

Ouch. I got a C on that exam, despite the compliment.

Since then, I don't think I've been compared to anyone as a bassist.

I was never a fan, but he was a couple months younger than me and grew up within a town & area I frequented. I bet we tried out the same basses in the same shops.

well, that and i was playing one of those velvet revolver songs and i was told that they thought the cd player's stop button wasnt working when i kept playing
