Whole step vs half step down

Does Tommy Shannon ever tune down a whole step? Like Texas Flood? Then you can walk down on the I chord, F#. What are the disadvantages of tuning down a whole step vs a half. Do many tune down a whole routinely?

I guess I'd say I usually hear "Drop D" tuning. Sounds like a whole step to me.

I like Blues which is actually one reason I went with a 5 string. I can "drop D" my moving one string north of a G on the E-string.

SRV material is often in A-flat or E-flat.

Tommy never hits a note I don't have on my 5.

(Texas Flood is in Gb, no?)

If u have to or want to stay 4 string, consider BEAD stringing/tuning....works nice.
