Jeff is WAY overboard and pushes buttons to get people curious about his school. It's a sales technique. He imitates evangelical preachers by using it, imo....and, by his logic, we all imitate Bill Black.
I get tired of the fretless Jaco argument. I like fretless, but couldn't care less about copying Jaco. I'm more interested in the old Police sounds, and old Stones sound.
As far as the slapping goes, I think he's full of it there too. You can be inspired to use any and all styles, without knowing who originated it...much less trying to become them.
To me it's like a buffet, if you see something you like, put it on your plate and get all you want....just don't tell me what to put on my plate!
