Good Thread!

Yeah, bass guitar is definitely not an instrument to bring along to the campfire and impress your friends (Yes, I know there is such a thing as an acoustic bass).

People expect an acoustic guitar and a guitar sounding melody.

Imagine hauling all your gear plus a generator, setting up, you're solo by the way, then all of a sudden it's Boom-Ba-Doom-Ba-Doom-Ba-Doom.

Wow I had no Idea that this happens to so many of us, I thought it was just me. My grandpa - who got me into music is always like " Let's hear a tune" so I will start playing
some oldies, and after a min. he will say "well can you play the whole thing"? I am like I just did... - Oh???... He says - like what the hell was that? So I just break out my acoustic Guitar and play the same song - and he is like hey thats great - I love the Beatles...
He doesn't really understand why bass is so dif. from Guitar.

I was gonna say Brown Eye'd Girl. That song is really built on the bass lines and around here if you are at a pub with a band playing, theres a high percentage it will be played, so most people young and old know it.

I used to play the theme song for "The Andy Griffith Show". I doubt very many people would recognize that one now though.

The theme from Law & Order gets notice.

I usually have similar problems during gig/reh after parties when the the rest of the band has either left or passed out (bass players are always the last men standing lol) - to entertain the dregs of the night by myself...so i learnt the following melodies;

Money - already mentioned
She Sells Sanctuary the Cult - play the ambient guitar melody with a bit of delay and its sweet!
Welcome to the jungle/ its so easy GnR - these are pretty easy to pic (pun intended) if your guests have ever used a pub jukebox...
Looks that kill Motley Crue - need i say any more???

...oh yeah and yes i am stuck in the 80's...
