Would it hurt me to play with my fretting hand in a wrist splint?

As some TBers will know, I've been suffering from wrist pain. However that's nearly always been concentrated in my fretting hand (left hand, as I'm a lefty playing righty). For that I've been wearing a wrist support when I've not been playing bass and concentrating on my technique and positioning when playing.

More recently I've been getting twinges in my right hand, my plucking hand, and I was wondering this:

Could I sensibly get away with wearing a wrist support on that wrist to play? Bearing in mind I normally have the wrist straight anyway.

Or is it going to throw my arm into a weird position to compensate for not being able to bend the wrist over the bass body to play?

I don't want to play like this if it means I'm going to be doing myself more damage, although it appears to work?

If you already have your wrist straight, a wrist support will probably not make a difference. I guess the only way of knowing is to try it out? You've got nothing to loose...

Hi Fassa, it is a tricky situation using any support because the support after a while takes away the job of the muscles and it can lead to more weakness.
Depending on the type of support you use, this needs compression to stay in place, again bit an ideal situation to compress the wrists when not necessary.
It may be your life style and job that are the problems and the bass only shows it up, so maybe look there. Whatever is causing this problem needs to be addressed (if i has not already) by medical/sports profesionals to get to the cause rather than just relive it.
On a point of interest why are you not playing left handed if you are left handed? Did you pick up the guitar and "feel" it was better or was it a consious decision to play right handed regardless?

Now it is not un-known for people who go against their own nature so to speak, to have underlying problems, so i just wonder about why your choice was so?
