Wrist bone thingie issue.

Greetings!

I've been playing bass for a few years and I've been developing some sort of issue in my fretting hand.

I try my best to always have a good positioning with my wrist since I had problems with it before. This led me to use my pinky a lot more than before but I've been getting used to it over the last year.

However, some pain or rather a pinching sensation is happening now and then in my wrist. Actually, the pain is located in a straight line with the pinky, at the wrist where there is this round bone.
I've been getting rather alarmed since I can move this round bone around quite a bit on my left hand and not at all on my right.

Should I drop the bass? I'm stretching my wrists and fingers 2-3 times a day and I am also using a weight to strengthen my wrists.. to no avail it seems!

I'm playing a 5 string fender deluxe jazz bass and I've been wondering if this is just too big for my wimpy wrist.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

First, stop the weight lifts. It's strengthening your hand, yes, but it's can also cause a major upflair in your tendons, leading to tendonitis. And that's a bit of a pickle. Look at doing some better stretching exercises. If you feel a strain during the exercise, you're over-exerting. Jazz Basses tend to have a decent neck, so it shouldn't be the problem. You can also sleep with a wrist brace on at night. That helps. And don't twist your wrist when you play (if you do).

I've got the same bony 'thing' you described and used to pop it, but found out it was pretty terrible for my health, so I stopped immediately.

Hope this helps

Hi Andrew!

Thanks for the answer.

I've been doing those stretches

And when you say that you used to pop it - It was making that cracking sound when you stretch the wrist towards the thumb side? I will definely stop that
