Write a bass solo?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'd like to do a bass solo at my school's music evening, but I have no idea where to start really... all the solos I admire most I find impossible to play.

Can anyone recommend a good solo to play, for someone with limited skill, or how to write/improvise a solo?

Thankyou,

MB

just make stuff up. try and develop a few related themes and work on tying them together. inspiration hits at random times.

or take a jazz standard and make up an arrangement of it, with a few chords, etc.

jaco is a good standby if you can pull it off. feel free to listen to my solo site (see sig) for some of my moderately lame efforts...

you need a good chord progression and make sure your playing emphasizes the chord notes enough that people can hear the song

Practice your scales and modes and work from there.

Yes. Adagio by Albinoni. Beatuiful song, very recognizable, and above all, not at all difficult.
