Sign in to disble this ad
I'm learning Palladium and when I get to muted notes the ones with the X I cant get the sound right. All I do is mute it by lifting my finger up but its not getting the right sound.. did I learn this improperly?

Also I think has been talked about but when I did a search it brought up too many topics I didn't need so sorry.

Getting a harmonic when ghosting notes is a common problem. You can try some muting, but that doesn't alway work. Many times you need to move your hand/finger slightly to get off the spot to a non-harmonic location usually a little movement is all that is needed. Sometime ghosting on a different string helps. Every situation is differ due to position, where next note is, and time availble. If fast sometimes just don't worry about it mute and move on.

Try muting the string with all four of your fingers on your left hand. That will lower the changes that you will hit a harmonic.

This is what I was about to tell you!
One thing to keep in mind with ghost notes on a sheet of music is where or what gets muted. Sometimes it is going to be written as the string that gets the mute or sometimes it is the note according to where your finger is place in the groove. So keep that in mind when you try to figure it out. It is a matter of how your right hand is placed and about alternate fingers versus raking!
Go for what is natural for you after all. There's a lot of bad transcriptions out there especially with Jaco's stuff,so be careful.
