| * ALL SOLD * Strings for sale: Golden Spiral, Velvet... I need to raise some capital and clear up some space. So I'm selling:
SOLD: Kaplan Golden Spiral G and D: yes, you heard right, the Holy Grail of strings themselves. I got these new and had them on and off a couple of basses for a period of about ten months. They've got enough life left in them to give you an idea of why people love them. $50 shipped CONUS for both. Velvet Compas 180 SUIT: why don't people talk more about these strings? They're great! They're the Velvets that are made for bowing, and they're wonderful under the stick. They also have that nice gushy velvet thing going on for pizz. These can be tuned either to solo or to orchestral pitch, which is part of why I'm selling them: at orchestra pitch, they're quite low-tension. (Think Corelli 370s). If you like that, you'll love these. If you think Spiro mittels are a good tension, these will be too light. But they've got that great Velvet equal-tension thing going which cures wolf tones and frees up the bass. Maybe three weeks of playing time on them. $130 shipped CONUS for the set (these run $295 new). Pirastro Pizzicato (nylon-wrapped gut) G/Labella Goldentone (nylon-wrapped gut) D. The poor man's Golden Spirals! Actually, these are just as expensive as Spirals, with the difference being that you can actually purchase them on demand. Nylon-wrapped gut just like the Spirals; the Pirastro is a bit tighter than the Spiral (which is nice) and the Labella is a bit softer than the Spiral (which is also nice). These make a wonderful combination. Good shape; about six months of use from me (but I bought them used from Bobby King). $40 shipped CONUS for both.
SOLD: Velvet Garbo D and G (original, not light, version). Want to go for the gut glory but have no interest in all that floppiness? When you see "arco" written in your music and you reach for your bow, do you find that there's nothing there because you don't own one and never will? Then these are the strings for you. Maybe a month of use on these (and two years of drawer time). $50 shipped CONUS for both (set runs $270).
