Price Drop: $1000 + delivery/shipping
I've decided to part with my '64 Kay C-1, for sale or trade. I have a lot of bass guitar work lined up, and haven't had the time or drive to invest into playing this thing right. I'd like to get $1350 OBO + shipping, or comparably valued electric or acoustic bass guitar, or a combination.

1964 Kay C-1 Double Bass
The bass is in solid condition - definitely a work horse as you can see from the worn finish and various scrapes here and there, but is structurally very solid, plays and sounds great.
It has been repaired (prior to my owning it) where the neck meets the body. I spoke with a luthier (Steve Reiley from Guarneri House in Grand Rapids, who for the sake of full disclosure has only seen the pictures at the link above, as he is about 200 miles from me) and he told me that it was quite common for these basses to be fixed this way with a dowel for extra strength...not the prettiest way to do it, but reliable. There is glue visible along the seams which has hairline cracking along it, but only in the extra glue, not the wood. It is extremely solid, no vibration, movement or play there or anywhere. I also showed it to the owner of the local guitar shop (who admits to having very little double bass experience). He said it felt great but seemed a little quiet. The luthier said that if is indeed quiet it is probably a setup issue, which I have never had done. The tag on shows the model C-1, and the serial number 48685. I can provide more pictures if you'd like, and I'll shoot for some better quality ones and possibly a video if I can get my hands on nicer equipment.
The bass comes with a Fishman BP-100 pickup, the stand pictured as well as a nylon case that I bought for $10 from a "almost ready to pitch" bin. It has a long split down the side which I patched it with duct tape and it actually fits and protects the bass rather well.
I'll consider any brand/model electric or acoustic bass for trade, as well as selling it outright. I'm located in northern Lower Michigan (just south of the Mackinac Bridge), and would be willing to discuss travel to accommodate delivery.
