The bass is a small 7/8ths or large 3/4 size with a 41" string length. I have recently refinished it in a beautiful dark blonde oil varnish(Tung Oil). The sound of the bass has improved nicely from the change. The original finish was a poor quality spirit varnish that chipped easily. You can see my thread on the refinishing HERE.It has recently been set up by Heinl's Toronto with a new adjustable bridge and had the fingerboard dressed. Comes with an older Pollman tailpiece with aircraft steel cable. I have recently put a new set of Spirocore Orchestra Strings on it. The bass sounds great. It has a big open, and very clear sound to it. Very easy to play as well. My main bass has just under a 39" string length, and is a much smaller instrument. I am not a big guy and the smaller basses just suit me better. I would be interested in trading this bass for a (preferably) carved 5/8ths or 1/2 size bass, or I have it for sale at $2299 USD. I am located in Ontario Canada. Please PM me if interested!!

What's been your experience with this bass and different strings. Are you mainly a orchestra player? I'm looking for somethign to replace my old Kay Swingmaster, which had a thin neck. How's the neck on this one? Thanks! Cal

It has a good end pin on it. Thick Ebony, cork lined plug, solid brass key. I'll see if I can take some more pictures tomorrow. I like the way it responds with Spirocores, and Dominants. It also sounds good with gut on top. The neck is no where near as thin as a Kay/Engelhardt. I have had no problems playing it. I play jazz pretty well exclusively so it sees relatively low amounts of arco play... I'll keep it up for sale for a few days and then we'll see. I might keep it. Serious inquiries will be considered.

I am including a Shadow pickup, and a really nice Bobelock gig bag with this bass. I'll keep the bass up here over the weekend, and then it might be going to Toronto for consignment... |
