Just recently had my bass set-up with new Thomastik Spirocores and decided they were too bright for this bass. They were only on there for two weeks and were played very little. $100 Paypal
you might want to consider keeping them on for a little longer. after a while, they start to sound really great. spirocores need some real heavy breaking in
Yeah, at least keep them for emergencies. I play on gut strings now but I did my time on spiros and now i've got a benchmark to compare other strings to. Every bass player needs a set of Spiros!
Thanks guys. I guess I'll hang on to them and break them in at a later date. Currently, I'm experimenting with a mixed set on my early 50s Kay. Obligato E & A, Lezner Gut D & G. I am digging that gut sound and just want to get a frame of reference of gut vs. steel. A friend of mine gave me a set of used Flexors for my old German bass and they sound great for arco. Not so much for pizz. though. I'm going to try a full set of Obligatos on that bass and see if I can work up a solid tone for pizz. and arco.
