Hi! I am selling a 1939 Kay Upright Bass that needs a little work. I bought it a few years ago and it had some water damage done to it (the bottom opened up from flooding in a basement). I had it repaired and then added a moveable bridge, kolstein vericore strings, etc. It played great but since has sat for awhile untouched and needs some work. Some of the seams are opening up but I am told are easily reglued. The neck has a crack in it at the base and the neck is loose.
I was going to fix it myself and got two estimates (i can show them to you). For $185 I can get everything reglued and have it in playing condition..for $400 I can get a rod put in the neck to make it even more solid).
It comes with a gig bag that cost around $200 (never used) and a fishman pickup - i'm not sure how good it is. All in all, it's a great jazz instrument. I'm focusing more on the negative as I want to be honest about what it's been through..but for someone who doesn't want to invest $3K in a kay bass this might be great for you. I'm asking around $800 for everthing.
BTW, i'm in the north jersey/new york city area.
I have many pictures and can send if you email me at

Thanks!
