Due to my interest in another bass, I am now selling my Kay. It is a 1940 C-1 #6652. It has a golden/honey finish with a rosewood fingerboard and tailpiece. This bass has recenly had new strings, a new adjustable bridge, Clef tailgut, and a brand new shiny Kay emblem installed.
It has undergone some repair work (the standard neck issue commonly seen on older Kays), but everything about the bass is as stable and as solid as I'm sure it was brand new. It plays and sounds great. As you can see, cosmetically, it is in VERY good shape with just typical minor wear around the edges and some other very minor other wear here and there.
It is currently strung with Lenzner Gut G and D strings and Innovation Silver Slap A and E's. I do have the other two strings from both sets (the gut E and A are wound). Please note that it has a wooden peg instead of an adjustable endpin. This peg has served me just fine in terms of sound and height, but a new endpin installation should not be a problem if you eventually wanted it.
One more thing: As seen in the pics, somewhere along the line someone has had a kind of western-looking design put on the upper back and shoulders with a matching design around the tailblock. It is a darker brown in color and while it's not inlaid, I'm sure there's a story behind it. I just don't know what the story is.
I'll ask $2200 for the bass and both complete string sets. This is less than what I have in it and less than what you often see Kays this old going for. Sorry, I cannot ship this bass. I am located in Jackson, TN which is in west Tennessee almost halfway between Memphis and Nashville.
Thanks for looking,
