Greetings, all.
I'm preparing to add a carved bass to the lineup, and there's only so many basses that will fit into a 1,000 square foot house occupied by a family of four so this one is on the block. Asking $1500 with a good cover.
It is a 3/4 gamba laminate imported by Ideal Music in 1979 and lost until their Brooklyn warehouse until I bought it at the end of last year. It was the best sounding bass in the store that day and smokes every plywood bass costing less than $2000 that I have played.
I have it strung with Pirastro Chordas, as gut strings suit the setup, which will be on the high side for most people. Bridge and fingerboard work will be needed for low action with steel strings. I will substitute Spiro Weichs or Flexocor 92s upon request.
Since purchasing it I have knocked the gloss off the back of the neck and replaced the solid steel tailgut with vinyl cord that has a 250 pound test weight. Higher tension strings like Spiro Reds will require a new tailgut.
Pictures will be posted to this thread Monday. Interested parties may PM me their email addresses to see pictures before then. Recordings are available. Located near Albany, NY (120 miles north of NYC) and willing to travel within reason for a small fee.
Sorry for the poor photo quality. My cameraphone is all I have access to at the moment.
The tag reads 1979, not 1929 as the photo would seem to show.
