I've had this early '60s American Standard laminated bass (serial# 30XX) since 1983. These basses are known for their big size and big sound and this one is no different. I've gotten lots of good comments for its sound and have used it for blues, jazz, pit, and chamber orchestra settings.
The laminations are in good shape, other than some wear on the edges. The neck heel was broken and repaired before I bought it and has held up just fine.
I had the bridge moved closer to the neck for awhile, but recently got it reset to the notches, which makes the string length about 43". As a result of this change, it could really use a new, taller bridge...I was going to get that taken care of but a new owner would probably want to get a bridge cut to certain specs.
The bass comes with a green Gollihur padded bag and is currently strung with Helicore medium orchestra strings. I'd be glad to restring with a used set of Helicore hybrids if you prefer.
I'm in Iowa City and would be willing to drive a couple of hours to meet up for a sale. $2000.
(The blue dot you see on the fingerboard is just stick-on paper to help me learn the region around the octave...peels right off!)
