*SOLD* Authentic? "Viennese" Bow - German frog - $550

I acquired this bow 6 years ago when I was performing in a semi-professional Baroque orchestra. I was told (though I have no documentation to support this) that this was an authentic bow from the late 18th century/early 19th century. It certainly appears consistent with a bow from that time period. The workmanship seems consistent with that time period as well. Still, I don't want to mis-represent this bow as being authentic, as I have no verifiable documentation to prove its pedigree. It simply might be...

This bow is exactly the type of bow that is appropriate for "authentic" performance of Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven, as well as Dittersdorf, Capuzzi, and Dragonetti. It's not terribly out of place with late Baroque music (ie. Bach ad Handel) either. It is actually really enlightening to play with a bow like this; it definitely shows you where to put your priorities when performing this music.

The bow is currently setup with black hair. I am willing to ship anywhere in the U.S. for free. Anywhere else, please enquire.

Yeah, I suppose I could do that, but it'd have to be pre-paid.

I don't really know what type of wood it is. It looks like it could be pernambuco (but still looks a little different...darker, with a more noticeable grain). It definitely doesn't look like snakewood. (I've heard of some of these bows made from European fruit-woods, like plum.) The frog looks like maple, but I don't know what the stick is. The button on the screw (which looks like it was added later) is ebony.

I'll try and get a weight tomorrow.

bow weight

I weighed the bow today at 128 grams. I used a postal scale, so it may not be absolutely accurate...that's the best measurement I could get.

The "open" hair is 19.25 in (48.75 cm) long. The frog is 2.5 in (6.5 cm) tall. Hope that helps.

The bow is currently out on approval with a fellow TBer. It may be sold, but it may still be available. I'll know in a few days.
