*SOLD* FS: Contrabass Shoppe Carbon Fiber Flight Case *PRICE DROP*

Asking $2500.

There's not much I can say about this case that is not said on the following web page, including detailed dimensions, descriptions and photos:

Carbon Fibre Flight Trunk for double bass instruments, from The Contrabass Shoppe

It weighs 18kg empty. That's just under 40lbs. Mmmm...that's light.

This case was purchased in the UK July/Aug 2006. I picked it up right at the Contrabass Shoppe. (Some sweet basses there, yikes.) In the last year or so its been from Seattle to: New Mexico, Utah, California, North Carolina, Sweden and even Ohio.

This case has 2 fewer rubber toggles then subsequent models. In 2008, Gary (the case maker) and Tony (from Contrabass Shoppe) sent me extra toggles to install, but they suggested that I could just use luggage straps until the toggles showed up. The straps worked so well that I never installed the toggles. If you buy the case, you will get the luggage straps AND the toggles.

There was also an upgrade in the interior strap system of the case. Gary and/or Tony sent me the new straps and I installed them with a rivet gun as per their instructions.

Orange TSA lock included.

Aside from the usual dings and nicks that all flight cases must endure, there are 2 things that should be noted:

1) On the upper bout area on the left top (if you are looking at the case straight on), there was a leather handle. (You can see it in the pics on the contrabass.co.uk website). It was broken off on the very first flight. (See my pic) This handle was to assist you in opening the case BUT NOT in carrying the case. I thought that baggage handlers would continue to attempt to lift the case by this handle, so I never replaced it. You certainly don't need it to open the case.

2) About 3 flights ago, the plastic latch on the interior of the case that goes around the neck of the bass broke while on the road. I repaired it with picture hanging wire. (See attached pic) It works fine, so I never got around to replacing the actual latch. It looks ugly, but works. You could easily fix this yourself for a few bucks.

I would prefer to deliver locally, and would even drive to meet someone if it was feasible. I will, however, look into shipping, probably from a Seattle bass shop like Hammond-Ashley, if the buyer wanted to pay for it.

PM me if you are interested.

2 of the 4 extra toggly-latchy things you will get.

Price Drop and Fuzzy Things

Price drop to $2500.

Also, I forgot that you also get these fuzzy strap covers, to protect your bass if you use the case without a soft case inside. I've actually done this when the bass was being put in a pretty gear-packed van. Case is easy to bring from van to venue and back, and no worries about the bass getting banged up by a music stand or drum case while in transit. You get 5 of these. I only photographed 4.

Hell of a Case to a Hell of a Bass Player

It is an amazing case. It made bandmates very happy all the time. It was purchased by a young bassist from Tacoma, who is heading off to college to study double bass. An amazing player. I'm glad the case went to such a great musician.
